Tamanoyu is a traditional Ryokan with hot-spring resort in Takekoma town, which is located in the Rikuzentakata city. The rooms in Tamanoyu and the mineral spring gushed out from Mt. Tama always make people relax physically and mentally.
Take along route-340（in Rikuzentakata city）, in the direction from Takekomaekimae station to the Ichinoseki region , until you see a signboard「世界大遺跡玉山・・」beside the 「竹駒食堂」canteen. That is the entrance. Then please continue driving towards the top of Mt. Tama， you can see the signboards written「玉乃湯」beside the road in every kilometer. Although they are not the same design, but it could be kind of fun to find out one by one. Along the way, there are also some historical remains waiting for people to find out. If you are interested in the Japanese history, it must be fascinating to imagine it like a time-trip between Nara period and Heian period.
The Kinzan on Mt. Tama used to be one of the largest gold mine in Japan. Although the gold has been almost dug out, it is one of the oldest gold mine in Japan. Gold of Kinzan had been used to make the statues of Buddha in Todai-ji Temple and in Hiraizumi Chūson-ji Temple. Perhaps it is the Konjikidou in Hiraizumi town, which made the country of Japan famous as a Golden Country by Marco Polo, who might have influenced the Western countries to the Age Of Wind.
It is said that actually the Kinzan on Mt. Tama has contributed greatly to the discovery of America. During the Heian period（794 – 1185）, this gold mines encouraged many people to move in Rikuzentakata city, by then，the prototype of the city gradually forming.
During the most prosperity period of Edo(1603-1868), this place was called Tamasengen「玉千軒」, because over one thousand houses had been located here, and there are many stores such as clothing shops, smith houses and so on. The place looked like castle fortifications.
Wherever a gold is found，a cluster of crystal also can be found. There are still many crystals in the mountain, proving the flourishing history of Kinzan (Gold mine).
The mineral spring gushed out from Mt. Tama contains much metabolic acid，this kind of acid has good effect to asthenopia and sore waist. Also, it can help people relax physically and mentally.

Besides the gold-mine trip， mountaineering on Mt. Hikami is also a good choice, because just nearby the guest house, there is an entrance for mountaineering beginners. And after climbing, it is very comfortable to enjoy the hot spring when all the sweat get cleaned. Especially in morning, admire the view of sunrise can be so romantic on the top of Mt. Hikami, where you can see the seashore of Sanriku area slowly turns into golden, and the red sun rise up little by little. Sometimes, the temperature changes so fast in the morning, that means you are lucky to see all of clouds gather on the same height like a sea in the sky , Japanese call it –「unkai」. To be flexible and to make a more relaxing mineral spring， we put special Japanese herb into the water. For example, the water in reseda is made of mugworts, the water in light pink is made of Lindera, and the water in milky color is made of soy beans, and the water in creamy color is made of dolabrata. Basing on seasons， pleasant smell and color changes in Tamanoyu. We feel confident to introduce and welcome everybody to enjoy our hot spring.
Tamanoyu Onsen ryokan is operated by a private company with city government’s directions. Rikuzentakata city was hit by Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami in 2011. After that，population and visitors are decreasing. Our staffs are trying hard to provide better service and overcome this tough situation.
